Bio

Sophie Ralston is a visual artist and singer-songwriter inspired by wildlife, nature and all things whimsical with a dark underbelly.

The Skinny:

Ralston has spent many of her adult years pursuing musical endeavors as a performing singer-songwriter; however, she began her artistic journey in visual arts. Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, many of her free-time hours were spent drawing at home.

During her senior year of high school, at the encouragement of a wonderful art teacher, Ms. Quinn, Ralston entered a pen and ink collage (shown below) entitled Justice for All? into the Governor’s State Youth Art Competition and the Congressional Art Competition. The piece won both competitions and subsequently hung in the Nevada Governor's mansion until it was moved to the U.S. Capital where it remained on display for one year. While at the U.S. Capital, this piece also won the Award for Creative Merit. The piece was instrumental in determining Ralston the recipient of the Muriel Goodwin Corbett Art Scholarship.

After obtaining a B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Art (Digital Media) from University of Nevada, Reno, and self-releasing two original music CDs, Ralston is revisiting visual art. Photography and watercolor are her current mediums.
